Feel more confident about retirement

Equitable and the Ohio Alternative Retirement Program (ARP)

You have the opportunity to participate in an Equitable 401(a) retirement plan to help you build assets for the future in a way that is convenient and flexible.

In the state of Ohio, if you are an eligible academic or administrative employee, you may choose not to participate in the state retirement system and instead enroll in the Ohio ARP, a 401(a) defined contribution plan.

Within the first 120 days of your employment, you must select which plan you wish to contribute to. If you do not elect a retirement program, you will automatically be enrolled in the state retirement system. Your decision is irrevocable.

Once you've been enrolled in either program, you must remain within that system while you are employed by your current employer. The amount you contribute to the 401(a) plan must be the same as if you were contributing to the state retirement system. Any employer contributions vary by employer.

All contributions made on your behalf are immediately vested, which means they’re yours as soon as they’re put into the plan.

Momentum Plussm plan benefits

Equitable’s Momentum Plussm is a multi-stage annuity built to adapt to your changing needs.  When you’re ready, it helps you seamlessly transition from growth potential to guaranteed income for you and your family, all in one place.

Growth potential

You can select from a variety of investment options that will fluctuate in value, based on market performance, as well as an option that provides safety of principal and guaranteed interest, regardless of what happens in the market. The investment options are managed by leading investment management companies you know and trust.

The value of the variable investment options within annuities will fluctuate and is subject to market risk, including the possible loss of principal.

Asset rebalancing

You can use this feature to automatically rebalance the assets in the investment options back to the original percentages you selected. You choose how often: quarterly, semiannually, or annually. Rebalancing doesn't guarantee a profit or automatically protect you from loss, but it does ensure that, over time, your allocations will stay in line with the strategies you feel are best. Whatever option you choose, you can change the allocation of your rebalanced assets. You can also stop, change, or switch the option at any time. There is no cost associated with this feature.

Tax deferral

With Momentum Plussm, you don’t pay tax on your contributions or the accumulated earnings in your account until they are withdrawn or distributed. That can help your assets grow more quickly than if they were in a taxable account.

Flexible, tax-free transfers

You can allocate your assets in the way that best meets your needs and transfer them to different investment options at any time, tax-free.

Managing your retirement account is easy

Once you enroll, you can make transfers, check your balances, and take distributions, using whichever method you prefer:

  • Access your account online by registering on equitable.com.
  • Call our Customer Service at 800-528-0204 to hear your current account value, change allocations for future contributions or transfer amounts among the available investment options.
  • Review your Account Statements and Confirmation Notices. You’ll receive a confirmation notice each time we receive a contribution on your behalf, and a quarterly statement detailing all of your activity in a given quarter. This information is available online, anytime you need it.

Make transfers if your needs change

With Momentum Plussm, you are free to transfer among the available investment options, without any charge or fee, whenever your needs or goals change.1 There are no taxes taken so your assets continue to grow tax-deferred until you withdraw them.

Rebalance to keep your assets in line with your strategy

If your allocations get out of balance, you can bring them back to their original percentages automatically with asset rebalancing.  Just choose quarterly, semiannual, or annual rebalancing, and you can start or stop at any time, at no cost to you. Rebalancing doesn't assure you a profit or automatically protect you from loss.

Take income from your plan

When you’re ready to take retirement income, you have a number of payout options, including systematic withdrawals, lump-sum payments and lifetime income options.

These distributions are taxable as ordinary income and, if you take them prior to age 59½, you’ll pay an extra 10% federal income tax penalty. Other taxes may also apply. Consult your tax advisor if you have questions.

Because the Ohio ARP program is a retirement plan, distributions before retirement (including withdrawals) are limited by federal income tax rules.

Please refer to the prospectus, supplements, and statement of additional information for complete information on distributions.

1 Restrictions apply to prevent disruptive transfer activity.
