Puerto Rico Temporary Non-Occupational Disability Insurance

Temporary Non-Occupational Disability Insurance is a program that pays benefits to insured workers who have lost wages as a result of a disability caused by an illness or injury that is not work-related, or an automobile accident.

Qualifying Leave Reasons

Employee’s own non-work-related illness or injury

Benefit Waiting Period

7 days, unless hospitalized within the first 7 days of disability at which point benefits begin on the first day of disability

Benefit Amount

Agricultural Worker: $12-$55 per week based on base year insured earnings

Non-Agricultural Worker: $12-$113 per week based on base year insured earnings

Death and Dismemberment benefits are also available

Maximum Weekly Benefit

Agricultural Worker: $55

Non-Agricultural Worker: $113

Maximum Leave Duration

26 weeks

Contributions

Total contributions are 0.60% of taxable wages with the employee contributing no more than 0.30%
