An increasing number of Americans are entering this phase of life with debt such as student loans, mortgage and credit card debt. According to the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, “the share of U.S. households over age 65 that carry some debt has risen sharply since the late 1980s, from 38 percent to 63 percent currently.”
