Hawaii Temporary Disability Insurance

The Hawaii Temporary Disability Insurance law was enacted in 1969, which requires employers to provide partial wage replacement insurance coverage to their eligible employees for nonwork-related injury or sickness, including pregnancy.

58% of employee’s average weekly wage

Maximum Weekly Benefit

$871 (effective 1/1/2026)

Minimum Leave Duration

26 weeks

Contributions

  • Employee Contribution Rate: Up to ½ of the premium cost not to exceed 0.5% of maximum taxable wage base
  • Maximum Weekly Taxable Wage Base: $1,500.21 (effective 1/1/2026)
  • Employer Contribution Rate: At least one-half (1/2) of plan costs, plus any additional costs not chargeable to employee
